Zovirax, Acyclovir Uses:
Zovirax, Acyclovir liquid, capsules, and tablets, are used in the treatment of certain infections with herpes viruses. These include genital herpes, shingles, and chickenpox. This drug may not be appropriate for everyone, and its use should be thoroughly discussed with your doctor. Zovirax, Acyclovir ointment is used to treat initial episodes of genital herpes and certain herpes simplex infections of the skin and mucous membranes.
Some doctors use Zovirax, Acyclovir, along with other drugs, in the treatment of AIDS, and for unusual herpes infections such as those following kidney and bone marrow transplants.
Zovirax, Acyclovir Dosage:
The usual dose of Zovirax, Acyclovir is one 200 mg capsule or 1 teaspoonful of liquid every 4 hours, 5 times daily for 10 days. If the herpes is recurrent, the usual adult dose is 400 mg (two 200 mg capsules, one 400 mg tablet or 2 teaspoonfuls) 2 times daily for up to 12 months.
Zovirax, Acyclovir Contraindications :
If you are sensitive to or have ever had an allergic reaction to Zovirax, Acyclovir or similar drugs, you should not take this medication. Make sure that your doctor is aware of any drug reactions that you have experienced.

More common side effects of Zovirax, Acyclovir may include : Diarrhea, general feeling of bodily discomfort, nausea, vomiting
Zovirax, Acyclovir Overdose:
Zovirax, Acyclovir is generally safe. However, any medication taken in excess can have serious consequences. If you suspect an overdose, seek medical attention immediately.
Symptoms of Zovirax, Acyclovir overdose may include : Agitation, kidney failure, lethargy, coma, seizures
Zovirax, Acyclovir Missed dose:
Take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose of Zovirax, Acyclovir, skip the one you missed and go back to your regular schedule. Never take 2 doses at the same time.
If you are using the ointment, apply it as soon as you remember and continue your regular schedule.

Store Zovirax, Acyclovir at room temperature in a dry place.
